Our Wedding Photos have been Posted!

Our wonderful photographer Michael Wachniak and his second shooter Brad Hughes did a fabulous job of documenting our day. We were so happy with the way the day went with them, they were professional, friendly, fun, and made us laugh through out the day... even more than we already were with eachother.

The way they caught the moments is magical. Looking through these photos I get a sense of the Love and Passion between Pat and I. I also get back the feeling that was had through every moment of that day. It's a glorious thing to have these photos to bring back the memories as they unfolded.

Enjoy!

Post Wedding Bliss

Patrick, Pat, Patty - the Love of my Life. We had the most spectacular day on the 23rd. It was magical, love filled, heart warming, fun, a little chilly, and oh so perfect! While there's always things you look back and wish either didn't happen that way, or were different in some way; the day was great and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

It's hard to believe it's over now. Everyone says, there's that post wedding bliss but also sadness that it's all over. We're there and while still beaming from the love that day brought, I may speak for myself to say that I'm sad it's all over. All the planning that went into it, didn't really seem like much to be honest. Everything was under control and I never felt really that stressed throughout the whole process. People kept asking me if I was nervous or stressed and I really never was either one.

I was stressed a little when the guys were running late getting ready, but in the end it was small potatoes and didn't make a different to the day unfolding.

We are settling back into life, getting organized with work on both sides and trying to get back to reality. Yesterday we bought our first purchase from the wonderful gifts you all shared with us. Thank you again! We purchased a wonderful bedroom set from the Brick, which should arrive in a couple weeks. Which will give us time to hopefully rip out the carpet in the bedroom and lay some laminate down. When you come visit us you'll be able to see it, but if you don't, here's the set we chose. We also added a chest of drawers to the set.
And yes, we heard that it's not fend shui to have anything stored under your bed, but we need as much storage space as we can get!

Thank you all again for coming and celebrating our life, our marriage and our love. We enjoyed having you all there and appreciate everything!

Money

When people ask you what you want as a gift for your wedding, it is the hardest thing in the world to say Money please!

Every couple that is starting out in life, would prefer money, as there are always big ticket items that are on the list that we are saving up to buy.

A few people have told me that they are fine with giving money.
For those that aren't please view our Registry Information at http://ashleighandpat.blogspot.com/2010/07/registry-information.html.

For those that are comfortable giving money, please know that it will go towards some big ticket items currently on our list: Queen Size Bed Set, Vacuum, Stove, New Bathroom Applicances: Toilet, Tub, Tiles etc.

Thank you and any gift, no matter what it is, is always very much appreciated!

Showers

Wedding Shower Dates have finally been organized. It's so hard to choose days that work with so many people's schedules, but we finally did it. The showers are more for people that won't be at the wedding but want to be involved in the big day somehow. We are so happy to be able to share our celebration with these people at these showers.

There will be two Showers. The first one for Sheilah and her family and friends, held at her friend Carol's house in Burnaby. The date of this is Sunday, September 12th at 4:30pm. If you would like to come to this one, please email me at ashleigh.pidgeon@gmail.com.

The second Shower will be for my mom, Sharen and her friends and family. This will be held on Wednesday, September 15th at 6pm. My mom Sharen will be hosting this party at her house in North Vancouver. If you would like to come to this one, please email me at ashleigh.pidgeon@gmail.com.

There is no theme for these Showers, but will be casual and mostly for women and girls.

For gifts, please view our Registry posting here: http://ashleighandpat.blogspot.com/2010/07/registry-information.html

If you have any questions, please email me at ashleigh.pidgeon@gmail.com. Cheers!

We are getting close - Only 3 weeks left!

As the days are counted down, it's hard to believe that in 3 weeks Patty & I will be married. It's so exciting, and I've felt myself get emotional the past few days as it's finally hitting me that we're getting married.

I really haven't been a stressed out bride or worried about anything. Everything is pretty much sorted out, the music being the last big thing which I'm still working on.

Patty is up in Norman Wells working, flying at least 5 hours each day. He is in bliss up there and I'm very happy that he's so happy. It makes a difference to his motivation and of course the bottom line of our income. I've been working my butt off to have a great start to my career and it is going very well. I couldn't have asked for a better start.

Patty's mom, Sheilah and I are going to finalize all the last details tonight, making sure everything is taken care of. Of course there are always little things that come up last minute and we're dealing with those daily now.

Keep updated by viewing our blog often as anything that needs to be known will be posted on here.

Cheers Everyone =)

Engagement Photos

A couple weeks ago, Patty and I went out to a field in Langley to shoot our Engagement Photos with our wonderful Photographer and now my new client Michael Wachniak. He had the idea of taking us to a field with living room furniture - the theme "At Home in Nature". We had so much fun with him and his assistant photographer Sarah Funk.

He was wanting to create a new more simple sleek designed blog and first up on the new blog - our engagement shoot. He officially launched it yesterday and we couldn't be more thrilled with the photos. He did a fabulous job and we can't wait to work with him again on our special day in 37 more =)

Thank you again Mike xo

Less than 2 months away now =)

*****************************************************************************************
On of my favorite hotels is the Westin. I bought a Westin bed from a friend of a friend that was working at the Westin when I bought our now Burnaby apartment almost 5 years ago. We've really loved the bed and enjoy it especially when it's a King size, which we can only get when we stay in their hotels.

Funny enough, a friend that I went to BCIT with is now working at the Westin Wall Centre in Richmond. This is the newest Westin Hotels in Vancouver. It's not very far from our venue at all and also has shuttles from the airport for ease.

We've got a great rate for the hotel for a guest room block of about 20-25 rooms, although I did mention to them that some people that live in the city may also book to stay the night of the wedding to save on travel after partying. The rate is $129/night. You can view the photos of the hotel here.

Click on the hotel name below to go to their Site:

Here is a Map with the distance to show you how far it is from the venue. Again, this hotel is only a suggestion, there are so many others that I've also listed on the blog to choose from. Find which one you feel most comfortable with.

Basically, we have lived together for so long that we have the basics and just about everything we could need or want until we move into a larger home. However, ANY gifts are very much appreciated!

Everything we have registered for has been put onto the blog here for your viewing enjoyment!

Updates

We are moving along with wedding plans without any problems. There are some smaller things that we've been able to cross of the list of late, such as shoes which were harder to find that we thought.

Now, the only big things to get signed off on are: food, band (don't have one yet), transportation, accommodation, flowers.

We have a chef who is going to be doing our food and have met with her to tell her what we like, but the menu items haven't been completely signed off on. Just the idea of flavors and tastes. We are very very excited for the food and hope that you all will be very satisfied with the outcome.

Everything is moving nicely. We can't believe that in another 2 months and 1 week it will be our special day.

We are doing our engagement shoot with our fabulous photographer Michael Wachniak this coming Tuesday. So, anticipate seeing some fabulous new photos of us very soon. Check out his blog to see what an excellent photographer he is. We are going to have phenomenal photos.

Invites are Done!

I've had the ideas floating through my head for quite some time now about how I wanted to do our invitations - Stationary. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do, until this morning I printed 1 copy and showed Patty asking what he thought. He wasn't stoked on it, had a couple things he said he didn't really like and overall, created a whole new invitation. In the end, I'm very very happy with them, as is he and I still got to use my "idea" into one of the pieces.

A few months ago, I helped a friend Daena, from Smithers do her wedding stationary for her August wedding. It gave me some practice and also made me understand the dedication it took to make it perfect.

Today, I used the whole day pretty much to get these invites done and ready to send out. More and more people are asking and I know that people are wanting to book their dates for flights if needed and plan accordingly.

I'm happy to say that they are officially complete and you should be getting them in the mail in the next few days. Please feel free to leave a comment on here of what you think. I'm very impressed with my skills on these =)

ENJOY everyone! And see you in under 4 months...

Update

Yesterday Patty & I went shopping for the first time for his wedding band. It was a joyous experience, he had a grin from ear to ear when he put on the first one. Our favorite shop was Romance Jewellers in Lynn Valley Mall. The lady there had so much personality and we really felt good with her. She was enthralled with our own happiness about our marriage and told us that we were so wonderful together. We've decided that they will be the ones where we purchase both of our wedding bands. Their custom work is phenomenal and they will be designing with me my wedding band. Stay Tuned - it is going to be Gorgeous! And Patty may end up getting his made custom through them as well if he can't find what he's looking for in their selection.

We also ordered Patty's suit yesterday. We took every measurement that is possible to take and sent in the order so that Patty could get a suit designed and fitted right to his body type and size. Usually his arms are much longer than most regular suits so they have to be altered anyways. The price was right and in 2 weeks we will get his suit. Fingers crossed it looks fabulous!

I need to get on top of the Invitations and will hopefully have some time this weekend to get them put together and put in envelopes ready to send out. Hopefully you should be receiving yours in the mail in the next couple weeks =)

Have a great long weekend everyone - oh and great news!!! I'm officially an Advisor with Sun Life Financial, in a couple days you'll be able to find me at www.sunlife.ca/ashleigh.pidgeon.

Cheers!

The Band...

I emailed the band we were wanting to get for our wedding the other day and gutted when I got a reply back that they were going to be touring Europe and wouldn't be able to attend our wedding. We were going to get this band called Headwater that is based out of Vancouver and two of the guys are friends through friends. We are connected to them in many different ways and we are so sad that they cannot be at our wedding. We had gotten them down to a great price as well and were very excited.

So, now we're back at square one with the band. We don't know who we are going to have now and are still in search for a band similar to them out of Vancouver for a similar price. They are blue grass folk, you can check them out here for your own personal records of music to listen to.

Bridesmaid Dresses - DONE

Here is the bridesmaid Dress. Sarah and Kim look sooo gorgeous in them! We don't know what we're going to add for jewelry and shawls, but this is kind of the look we're going for.

Recent Plans Solidified

Of the recent plans lately - we've got a couple things nailed down.

1. Bridesmaid Dresses - Kim and I went out to Metrotown two weekends ago and found a perfect Black, yes I know not what we were thinking, but Black dress. They are so cute! Sarah went and got hers the next day and wasn't so sure about it, until she tried it on. I saw it on her a couple days later and I thought she looked stunning in it. Both girls are happy, I'm happy, they fit and look great - DONE!

I can't wait to figure out their hairstyles with them and jewelry and shoes.. oh dressing up is so much fun!

2. Food - Kind of. Sheilah has been a massive help in most areas of the wedding, with her advice, tips, books and experience. We have decided to do Tapas style food, no sit down meal, roughly 15 different choices of h'ordeurves. She says that most people at weddings will eat about 8-9 different ones and be stuffed, or filled to perfection. Everybody that knows us knows how much we Love food. We are ones to try different restaurants all the time instead of going to the same one over and over. (Unless we were in Smithers and has little choice). We're going to be using a chef from Sheilah's work and because we've tasted many of the tapas that they've done for previous parties, we are assured the food will be fabulous!
We still have to nail down the exact menu of food items, but we're well on our way. Booze has also been decided on - what a hard decision! We're not going to have an open bar - too many bottles and kinds of alcohol to handle and purchase so we're going to have red & white wine - unlimited, 1 type of beer - unlimited and a specialty drink that matches our colours and tasted DEEEE-licious. We might add somethings to this, but so far this is it.

So - that's it.. that's where we are. We still haven't booked the band yet. I don't know where we're at with our budget, well we still have the flowers and rentals and still don't have the food cost nailed down so I don't want to confirm the band without these big numbers being known. I'm hoping and praying that we can have them though - it wouldn't be our wedding without a band. We are music junkies for sure!

Wedding Registry, to have or not to have...

As our lives have progressed over the last 4 years, we've gained lots of household items to complete our home. In wedding registries, you usually find most of the things that we already own. And, when you think of the prices of the items, lots of times they are marked up just because it's got "wedding" tagged to it.

Patty and I have talked about this fact endlessly, asked friends about their weddings and what they liked or disliked about having a registry and took everything in stride. Some friends even had a registry with Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC), which sounded like a great idea, although we just weren't sure.

We decided that there were a few larger items that we need, that we'd put on a list, a Pat & Ashleigh Wish List. I figured that I'd post the items on here, with pictures letting you all know that if you want to give us a gift, we will put a box at the wedding, for donations towards our wish list items. We struggled with the idea of asking for Money, but hoped that knowing where it was going would settle some of the distaste. We may sign up for a registry as time goes by, but we will surely post where on here if and when we decide. Please don't feel as though you have to give a gift, it is only a choice.

One of the biggest things on our list, is a Solid Bedframe.

Here is one that we have favored in our search.

A Band...

In all the research I've done, a big consideration for most people is what kind of entertainment they are going to have at their wedding. We've asked everybody that we know who's married, what was the one thing that they would have changed if they could go back. From almost every one it was that they wish they had a live band. When you have been to a wedding with a live band, you know the atmosphere it builds and the fun everybody has. We've been weighing this decision and still haven't completely been sold on it. The reason... funds

We are going to wait until more of the larger items are ticked off the list and we know where our budget stands before going ahead and booking the band we have on our wish list.

They are a beloved band in the Vancouver music scene, home to North Vancouver with a blue grass folksy sound. Pat and I have heard them many times at different venues over the years we've been together and have always thoroughly enjoyed them.  At this point we'll keep it a secret... you might even have to wait until the actual day to find out who they are and if they will be playing on our special day.

hint... 1 of the band members plays the mandolin =)

Dresses... What a Success!!!

On February 4th, Patty and I went down to Vancouver for a much needed sort out session. We had meetings almost every day for one thing or the other and got a lot accomplished. It was a very successful trip.

On the 4th, I went to the first of what was going to be 4 bridal stores with my mother in New Westminster, BC. The Bridal Gallery was our first stop and our assistant for finding THE dress was Katie. She was lovely, so beautiful and very sweet. She picked out about 4 dresses and my mom and I picked out 4 dresses. Between Katie and my mom & I we picked out very different dresses and had an array of gorgeous dresses to try on. I went back and forth between our pick and Katie's and while a few of Katie's' were hinging on being The One, the 6th dress, one of my mom and I's picks, became THE DRESS! The moment i tried it on, I felt amazing, the look in the mirror at myself gave me goose bumps, the way the dress moved, and how my body looked sold us. We were all in awe, and my mom and I had tears in my eyes, mine not flowing down my face, but tears of joy, while my mom was sobbing at how beautiful I was. I tried on the other 2 dresses, saving the last one (8th) as it was one that I had on my favorites list from all the months of searching online. It was beautiful, just like all the others, but it wasn't The One. We went back and forth trying on the ones that were close to #6, but nothing compared, and that's when we knew we had found the Dress. It hit the mark on so many levels, and I said to my mom... "I don't want to show anyone else, I want it to be a secret and big surprise!" She agreed, and I bought my wedding dress that day, after just an hour of looking at the 3rd store I had been to. I bought it off the rack, so got a 10% discount and there are only minor alterations that need to be done, which I will get finished when we are back in Vancouver. What a successful day it was and made my heart glow. I was so happy that my mom was there to share that day with me. It was perfect!

Another successful day, February 6th, Patty and I had embarked on a mission to complete some renovations on our Burnaby apartment. We were knee deep in paint, when Sarah & Kim (my 2 bridesmaids) came over. We had planned to go to one of the bridal stores on Hastings to look at some dresses I had picked out for them to try on. I had picked 4 dresses and they tried 3 of them on each, they were all the same fabric but different design. I didn't mind too much if they had different dresses, but just wanted the fabric or color to match. Of the 3, both of them fell in love with 1, and both different to eachother. They looked sooooo cute in them, it made us all so giddy. They were sold, I was sold and even sneaked a photo, but you will all have to wait until the special day to see how gorgeous they look.

On that note, 2 more things done on our checklist and I couldn't be happier.
